Edinburgh, the Athens of the North, is the ideal centre for
golf tours and holidays. Not only is it surrounded by courses, but the city offers
a wealth of attractions. In addition there can be few shopping streets
that can rival Princes Street with its splendid views over the Gardens
to the Castle, which dominates the skyline. The city is often described
as one of the most beautiful in Europe and in keeping with that accolade,
offers a wide variety of restaurants, bars and nightlife.
To the east of the city, fringing the coast, lies a string of villages
and small towns where, as elsewhere in Scotland, golf is not as much a pastime
as a way of life. Notable is the village of Gullane, which boasts, in
all, five 18 hole golf courses including the world famous Muirfield, a
regular British Open venue.
